A former professional dancer and teacher, Ruth Spivak has always had a fascination for the mechanics of the human body so it was the natural step for her to retrain in this area following injury.
Ruth’s ability to assess and detail human movement began when she was in her 20s and working as a Benesh notator, analysing and documenting dancers’ movements for Birmingham Royal Ballet, Scottish Ballet and London City Ballet. Her ability to notice tiny movements and mis-alignments in the body remains key to Ruth’s work today.
Ruth went on to become a teacher at English National Ballet School and Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance where she remained for over 15 years after realising she could help professional dancers keep their bodies ‘working’. Ruth went on to retrain at The School of Soft Tissue Therapy and, in 1997, she began working as a therapist at Rambert and also set up her home clinic.
In 2011, Ruth worked as a therapist at the Centre for Health and Human Performance in Harley Street, London, alongside Professor Greg Whyte OBE and his team. Professor Whyte is an internationally recognised expert in the field of sports and exercise science.
Trained in Pilates, Ruth is convinced of its benefits in helping individuals with their posture and muscular strength.
Ruth has trained as an equipment-based Clinical Pilates instructor and matwork, specialising in musculoskeletal rehabilitation which can incorporate hands-on deep (soft) tissue manipulation, myofascial release and precise, controlled Pilates exercises on specialist equipment. Combining this with treatment has resulted in a more successful and permanent solution for all manner of injuries and surgeries.
Always keen to build upon her skills, Ruth is a highly skilled Kinesio Tape Practitioner Level 1, 2 & 3. She has also attended many cadaver and dissection courses which has given her a greater understanding of fascia, tissue and the biomechanics of the body.
